The Spanish spoken in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado is so unique and so special. It's a language of a people with a beautiful heritage forged in remote mountain villages and tiny towns over the last few hundred years. When I hear it, it feels like a warm familiar blanket from my childhood. Sadly, that blanket is quickly unraveling, and soon I’ll only have threads of it left. The dialect is fading away as the elders pass, but there are those who are trying to keep some of it alive. |
