I have a flash print sale on Nov 25-27, across my entire image collection, for both print-only and wall-ready art (metal/acrylic/frames). Free shipping in the US and several other regions. Please tap the link in bio to explore the collection of 600 images, or visit print.babaktafreshi.com. It’s always a pleasure to share my work with anyone who loves the night sky. To me having a print placed in someone’s house or office is far beyond the sale. It is the joy of being a part of others life and me

Beyond our offices, apartments, and city life, the natural world follows its cosmic path. To many who live under urban light pollution, the night sky became a forgotten part of nature and I hope that works that I share reconnect us with this essential part of life. Filmed from a distance with a super telephoto lens, here the crescent moon sets behind Boston Harbor towers. Music by @alimaxtonelabs. | Babak Tafreshi Photography

An aurora storm is possible tonight when particles of a solar eruption arrive to Earth. Meanwhile enjoy this 3-minute Icelandic meditation with the sound of gentle waves and stunning display of the northern lights in real-time. A lighthouse shines on the massive sea stack every few seconds. The wide-angle view, filmed with a Sigma 15mm 1.4 fisheye lens, shows how an aurora crown starts to form, then dances overhead, and disappears. This was in Reykjanes peninsula on my Sep 2024 aurora phototour.

A minute of peace, with stars above world heritage places and archeological sites. From a maya temple in Tikal in Guatemala to ancient petroglyphs in California’s Bishop area and Iran’s Teimareh Valley. From a castle in Bavaria to a roofless abbey in Tuscany, and the moonrise behind Pisa tower. | Babak Tafreshi Photography

Sharing with you a minute of peace. A crescent moon rises in the early morning above the ocean shoreline, with the elegant music of @barbadbayat, a part of our joint project Celestial Orchestra with Prague Metropolitan Orchestra to create original scores inspired by my night sky imagery. | Babak Tafreshi Photography

It was a spectacled midnight moonrise, a few months ago in Madagascar on assignment for @NatGeo. On a daytime scouting I spotted a giant baobab tree on the far horizon which could be perfectly aligned with the rising moon in the super telephoto view, but I didn’t expect to see a sleeping stork at the treetop. The baobab was a night refuge to many other birds. On the astronomical note, the dark night side of the moon is also visible, lit by the Earth and known as earthshine. | Babak Tafreshi Phot

“Such meteors are very rare to witness,” shares Nat Geo Explorer Babak A. Tafreshi. Watch this special footage Tafreshi captured near the northernmost point of Iceland. Tafreshi recounts this moment as he saw the night sky explode with the northern lights and a spectacular fireball above the Arctic Henge monument. “I was about to move our group to another spot when this tennis-ball-sized space rock entered the earth's atmosphere and burned an altitude of 60-90 km above us, becoming as bright as

From Babak A. Tafreshi, twanight.org/tafreshi : About 32 million people in the US alone live in the path of totality on April 8th, but almost the entire North America continent can see a partial eclipse, from coast to coast. 🎬: A brief section of my 2-hour webinar on how to photograph and film solar eclipses. The most popular telephoto lens for totality is a 500mm and for wide-angle landscape images 14 to 24 mm depending on where in the path you will be. To purchase the webinar please tap the l

Babak Tafreshi on Instagram: "Tonight is the peak of Geminid Meteor Shower, best visible in late evening to early morning. It’s usually the best meteor shower of the year, if you can find clear skies! This clip, filmed last night in my backyard while I was sleeping inside, shows a number of Geminids under bright urban sky of the Boston area. In dark skies the shower is much more interesting to watch. The video ends with a surprise capture of a great egret flying in the distance and lit by the mo

Babak Tafreshi on Instagram: "Intense solar activity caused two nights of amazing aurora storms this week where the show was visible very far from the poles, and a red-purple glow was photographed above very unusual places for aurora: palm trees, giant cacti, and tropical beaches! I missed the show while traveling for a NatGeo talk, but here is the scene of 2024 Oct 10 when a similar geomagnetic storm brought an incredible aurora crown above my home near Boston, at latitude of just 42N. I was tr

Babak Tafreshi on Instagram: "The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee is home to 19 species of fireflies or lightning bugs, including the rare Blue Ghosts that appear in these recent timelapse videos for my new NatGeo Society project Life at Night Atlas. Unlike brighter fireflies that appear high above the forest floor with bright green-yellow flashes, they fly only 1-2 feet from the floor and display a steady dilm glow that from a distant look pale blue to human

Babak Tafreshi on Instagram: "A minute of peace, with Baobab trees at night. Documented recently on a @natgeo assignment in Madagascar, these sky-reaching ancient giants were magnificent under stars. Madagascar is the origin of all baobab species, which are also found in mainland Africa and Australia. In Malagasy they are callled renala, meaning Mother of the Forest. Music by composer @barbadbayat, a part of our #CelestialOrchestra project."

Babak Tafreshi on Instagram: "Sound on for a minute of peace. In Yellowstone National Park, the Old Faithful geyser erupts on a moonlit night, masking the Pleiades star cluster in the backdrop. The water reaches up to 180 ft (55 m). Yellowstone, the world’s first designated national park (in 1872), has 11,000 years of human history. It is home to about 500 geysers, 6000 bison, 15,000 elks (in summer), 1000+ grizzly bears, and 100+ reintroduced grey wolfs. @ynpforever @yellowstonenps @nationalpar
