Checking what the composer wrote is only the first step. Since music notation is always an approximation, we have to think of other ways to interpret the composer's markings and try to deduce what they most likely meant, when there are several possible interpretations for what they wrote. Even rhythms did not always mean the same thing in different eras!

It's been forever since the last Ask Augustin! I spent over 2 months in Europe from the end of September until mid-December. After the 6 months at home, with only occasional virtual performances, it was amazing to travel to play some concerts in front of audiences in October and November. Traveling from country to country and navigating the complex testing and quarantine rules was a surreal experience, but in those few and brief moments when I stood on stage again, things felt a bit more normal.
