Jurors gave Tanner Horner the death penalty at the end of a month-long trial. The former delivery driver pleaded guilty to kidnapping and killing 7-year-old Athena Strand in 2022. The defense was hoping for life in prison without parole based on claims that Horner was not a danger to society and his upbringing and autism diagnosis were mitigating factors in the crime.
