Jul 9, 2008 · I'm trying to obtain a Geezer Butler tone (Paranoid Album), and I know he played a '69 P bass for that album, with high action and he played over the neck. Set aside from the '69 P bass, I've done everything, I can't seem to get the tone. (I'm trying to get with the Squier P bass w/ Bassline QP's (which might be my problem )).

Oct 2, 2007 · Much like Jack Cassady, Geezer Butler's tone comes from his right hand. A P-Bass and similar right hand technique will get you that tone, especially through something like an SVT. 1954bassman

Mar 8, 2019 · I have an outlier possibility I want to mention. It may also help to go onto the EMG website and grab the Geezer instructions there. They didn’t send the right stuff in the package in the last Geezer set I bought. I ordered just a plain old P pick up set (no J) and the the wrong wiring harness and incorrect instructions were in the box.

Aug 22, 2004 · Hi, I have a Geezer Butler pup in my pbass. The GB pup’s cover isn’t removable. Although (color me shallow) I like the sound it gives me, I’m looking for a pup that is comparable in sound, but that has removable covers so I can put my white covers on. The bass is pearl white with a pearl red guard and a white grab bar.

Jan 1, 2020 · Friends, these EMG Geezer Butler pickups are really amazing sounding pickups. I am using the PJ set in a Squier Affinity P bass with an alder body that I supermodded. I almost installed Seymour Duncan quarter pounders but went with the EMG pickups. Why? It was a matter of tone and ease of installation. EMG uses a solderless installation design.

May 20, 2018 · The EMG Geezer pots are 6mm solid shaft. The knobs take a setscrew. I tried pressing on some knobs I had laying around. None of them fit. I have the the EMG GB set. Found some knobs on StewMac that I ordered and am trying. (Have a look at the "Knobssss" thread). At least on StewMac they give decent info about sizes etc.

Nov 10, 2013 · Steve Harris has that same 'slap' the string technique (it's not really slap, more like funk fingers from Tony Levin, but with actual fingers). I have inherited that myself. It's the sort of thing that probably gives engineers nightmares,but it really adds to a sound I think. Geezer's sound is traditionally a lot less bright than harris.

May 20, 2021 · I don't know all that much about Geezer Butler but know at least he used a P bass with Laney tube heads and I do hear some overdrive on that album, most likely from the head being overdriven. Jack used 100 watt Marshall amps from 1966 until probably the late 70's and pushed them and yes both of those guys wrenched the sound out of their basses ...
