The Allegheny County Health Department has identified the first human case of West Nile virus in 2025. The individual, who lives in Plum Borough, began experiencing symptoms in mid-July, including fever, malaise, diarrhea and anorexia, and is currently recovering at home.

SHENANGO TWP., Pa. (WKBN) — West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected from Shenango Township in Mercer County. This is the ninth sample to test positive for this virus in Mercer County this year. There have been no human cases of West Nile virus in the county, though Allegheny County reported its first human case on Monday.

The Allegheny County Health Department detected West Nile Virus in more samples this week and will now treat several neighborhoods.
