Syrian-Australians are mourning the loss of family members in their homeland after the reported killings of hundreds of civilians, mostly from the Alawite minority, in recent violence.

Armed groups killed entire families, including women and children, during an outbreak of sectarian violence in Syria last week, the United Nations’ human rights office said on Tuesday.
