San Francisco and a handful of other US cities are suing the Trump administration over its move to block funding for local governments with “sanctuary” policies as the president cracks down on undocumented immigrants.

A coalition of U.S. cities and counties on Friday filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's executive order seeking to force so-called sanctuary jurisdictions to cooperate with his immigration crackdown and mass deportations.

The City of San Francisco is leading a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its crackdown on sanctuary cities and states and its threat to cut off federal funding.

The lawsuit comes as Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson is expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee next month.

Santa Clara County is expected to file its second lawsuit in as many weeks against the Trump Administration on Friday — this time over an executive order that mandates federal agencies to cut off funding to local jurisdictions with sanctuary policies.

Portland will now join a coalition of local governments suing the Trump administration for executive orders and actions that harm sanctuary cities and states.
