The Saturday retirement of Derek Carr means the Saints, at least for now, will staged a three-man quarterback derby between 2025 second-round draft pick Tyler Shough, 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler and 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Carr tried an injection and rehab but it wouldn't allow him to possibly return to 100 percent unless he underwent surgery. The team also announced that the veteran passer had a labral tear and "significant degenerative changes" to his rotator cuff, which were discovered in March.
