A wildfire in California’s Mono County prompted evacuation orders on Thursday as the Pack Fire quickly grew to 1,000 acres.

A fire in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains is spreading at a critical rate and forcing evacuations, as an atmospheric river drops rain in much of Northern California.

The Pack Fire in Mono County, about 140 miles southeast of Sacramento, had grown to about 5.3 square miles by Thursday night.

Sage Fire initially started 4:16 p.m. Oct. 27 in Mono County, California. As of Thursday morning, 260 acres of land had been scorched by it. The fire crew managed to contain the fire entirely as of Thursday morning. At present, details about the cause of the fire are unknown.
