Though Hurricane Erin is not forecast to make landfall on the U.S., the storm’s rapid intensification has prompted increased measures in North Carolina.

The first hurricane of 2025 in the Atlantic continued to track north of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Sunday morning, hitting those islands with heavy rain and gusty winds. Erin is expected to move away from the islands later today and begin to curve more to the north.

Those evacuating are advised to use Interstate 64 West or U.S. Highway 158 North. North Carolina's Route 12 is expected to face significant ocean overwash from Hurricane Erin.
