The recall follows a January investigation​ by U.S. auto safety regulators into reports of engine failure in certain GM vehicles.

General Motors is recalling 721,000 SUVs and trucks worldwide due to an engine failure issue that may cause the vehicles to “lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash,” per the recall notice.

Automakers recall vehicles for all kinds of problems, from serious issues like defective transmissions or faulty safety equipment to more mundane woes like water intrusion or improperly printed owners’ manuals.
