The Trump administration has launched a trade investigation into Brazil over unfair policies harming American workers, companies, and digital platforms.

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), a son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has acknowledged that the 50% tariffs imposed by the US Republican Government of Donald Trump on Brazilian exports were “unfair” to his country's productive sector.

President Trump cited the trial of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro as part of the rationale for a 50% tariff on Brazil. It is one of his latest—and perhaps most brazen—use of levies as a cudgel for priorities other than trade,

Trump called the investigation into the former far-right leader of Brazil a “Witch Hunt that should end IMMEDIATELY.”

Both Trump and Bolsonaro are right-wing populists who lost re-election bids and faced criminal charges after leaving office. Both presidents experienced similar post-election unrest with supporters attacking government buildings.
