It's only the beginning of March, but the Philadelphia Phillies' pitching staff already appears to be in midseason form. Several Phillies pitchers have hit the ground running in spring training, starting at the top of the rotation.

The Athletic ’s Matt Gelb reported Friday that Schwarber and the Phillies have had “broad conversations” about a new deal. Schwarber, who turns 32 on March 5, is entering the final season of a four-year, $72 million contract.

It had been three years since Kyle Schwarber played a competitive inning at first base. But that’s where Schwarber started the Phillies’ 7-7 tie with the Yankees on Thursday. It was his first time at the position since the 2021 postseason with the Red Sox.
