A "bomb cyclone" is intensifying severe winter weather for millions of people across the U.S. The system is expected to knock out power and disrupt holiday travel.

“As the cold air passes over the unfrozen and relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, warmth and moisture are transferred into the lowest portion of the atmosphere. The air rises, clouds form and grow into narrow band that produces 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour or more,” the NWS says.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A powerful storm system is set to intensify into a bomb cyclone as it tracks across the Midwest toward the Great Lakes this weekend, bringing high winds, heavy precipitation and hazardous travel conditions through Monday, according to WTOL 11.

Emergency services travel to the Dampier Peninsula to assess the damage caused by the category three system, which crossed the coast on Tuesday afternoon.
