The Philippines' weather bureau warned of life-threatening storm surges of up to five metres and destructive winds as Typhoon Fung-wong churns toward the country's eastern coast, where it is forecast to intensify into a super typhoon before making landfall on Sunday night.

A powerful storm system will hit Thailand, prompting alerts for flash floods, strong winds, and heavy rainfall in several areas.
BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has urgently instructed all provincial governors and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to closely monitor Typhoon Kalmaegi, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding to Thailand from Nov 7 to 9.
Fung-wong, expected to be a "super typhoon" before making landfall, bears a huge footprint, with a radius that could cover "almost the entire country".
Typhoon Kalmaegi left a trail of death and devastation as it tore through the central Philippines this week, reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble and displacing tens of thousands of people.
