SAN JOSE — A man’s body was found inside a recreational vehicle as the city was preparing to tow it away as part of a mass clearing of a Columbus Park encampment Monday morning, according to San Jose police.

As San Jose begins sweeping its largest homeless encampment in Columbus Park, people who have accepted offers of shelter will be safe from having their vehicles towed until space opens up.

Mayor Matt Mahan said during a news conference that the body was discovered during the clearing of the Columbus Park encampment. The cause of death is under investigation.
