SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq (Reuters) -Dozens of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants will hand over their weapons in a ceremony in northern Iraq on Friday, marking a symbolic but significant first step toward ending a decades-long insurgency with Turkey.
ISTANBUL, July 10 (Reuters) - The handover of weapons by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Iraq, following its decision to disband, should be completed within a few months, a spokeperson for Turkey's ruling AK Party said late on Wednesday.
Representatives from across the Kurdish political spectrum, including the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), are attending a PKK disarmament ceremony in Sulaimani province on Friday.
Two drones were shot down overnight near Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga bases, authorities said on Friday, hours before PKK fighters were to begin laying down their weapons at a ceremony in the autonomous region.
