Typhoon Kalmaegi lashed Vietnam with fierce winds and torrential rains as it made landfall on Thursday after leaving more than 100 people dead and dozens missing in the Philippines.

Vietnam evacuated thousands of people from coastal areas as Typhoon Kalmaegi, already among the world's deadliest cyclones this year, closed in on the country's storm-battered central belt on Thursday.

Typhoon Kalmaegi brought fierce winds and torrential rains to Vietnam on Friday, killing at least five people and leaving widespread damage across the country’s central provinces.

Typhoon Fung-Wong slammed ashore on Aurora province in Luzon, the Philippines most populated island Sunday evening, prompting the evacuation of nearly a million people.
