The Trump administration unlawfully ended temporary protected status for thousands of Haitian and Venezuelan nationals living in the United States, according to a new complaint filed Monday.

Lawyers for Civil Rights filed the suit Monday, seeking to protect legal status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants who have fled their home countries.

In a lawsuit filed Monday, immigrants and advocacy groups say the president does not have the legal power to end TPS early and that his decision is motivated by racism.

Several Venezuelans and three immigrant rights groups have sued President Donald Trump's administration over its decision to end temporary protections against deportation for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan immigrants living in the United States.

Advocates argue that the administration’s decision to end TPS for Venezuelans in April and September is unconstitutional and racially discriminatory.

The lawsuit was filed against the Department of Homeland Security and its secretary, Kristi Noem. Earlier this month, Noem announced the end of deportation relief, known as Temporary Protected Status, for Venezuelans in the United States without permanent legal immigration status.

Venezuelans with temporary legal protections have sued the Trump administration over its decision to strip about 350,000 immigrants of their status by April 7. Temporary Protected Status allows people to legally reside and work in the U.

On Monday, Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR) in Boston announced it had filed a federal lawsuit to block the Trump administration’s decision to phase out Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants.
