The New York Mets and Boston Red Sox were once rivals, competing over the same pool of players, but after three moves, they are now set up as perfect trade partners.

The Red Sox are looking to land another infielder, and one who plays second or third base. While the Mets could look to trade Mark Vientos or Luisangel Acuna for one of the Red Sox outfielders, they likely wouldn't get the Red Sox to bite.

The Mets needed to make 40-man roster space after the trade for Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers on Wednesday night, so they designated Criswell for assignment. That puts Criswell on waivers, where another team could claim him, just like the Mets did in early December. If Criswell clears waivers, he can stay in the Mets' organization.
