The New York Jets interviewed Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for their head coach vacancy.
They were both fired from NFL jobs in part because of abrasive personalities. Has their time in Minnesota prepared them for another shot?
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has done a terrific job this season. But his future in Minnesota seems far more certain than that of defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Flores, who previously served as Dolphins head coach from 2019-21, has had interview requests from the Jets and Bears as he prepares the Vikings defense for the playoffs.
Teammates described the relationship between Flores and Smith as like having two coaches in the room rather than coach and player.
The Jets are winding down their second full week of interviewing candidates for their vacancy. Flores is the 13th known person to interview. They also are expected to meet with their former quarterback and Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley on Friday.
The trio increased the list to 15 coaching candidates to meet with the Jets, who have also conducted 15 interviews for their general manager job.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores isn't hiding the fact that he's interested in another head coaching job, but he's not going to jump at just any opportunity that arises, either.
