Some high school students this fall can take an advanced placement class in African American Studies, the first AP of its kind.

The Advanced Placement course on African American studies that has been rejected by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration is being tested at 60 schools around the country.

Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools became the first district in Genesee County to add an advanced placement African American History class to its curriculum at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
