Fire Extinguished After 12-Hour Fight on USS New Orleans Off Okinawa
The Navy declared a fire aboard the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans extinguished following a 12-hour battle Wednesday night off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. WASHINGTON — The USS New Orleans (LPD 18) caught fire Wednesday off the coast of Okinawa, according to the U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet. The fire began at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, local time. It was declared extinguished at 4 a.m. Thursday, a U.S. Navy spokesperson said.
