President Donald Trump on Friday announced the U.S. government has secured a 10% stake in struggling Silicon Valley pioneer Intel in a deal completed just a couple weeks after he depicted the company’s CEO as a conflicted leader unfit for the job.

The U.S. government's 10% stake in Intel (INTC) may form the basis of a U.S. sovereign wealth fund, Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, said on Monday. "At some point," he expects more transactions in chips and other industries.

The stake will be funded by the $5.7 billion in unpaid Chips Act grants and the $3.2 billion award from the Secure Enclave national security program.
