HUAWEI beat Samsung to the punch by offering a triple-screen foldable, but could Samsung be first with a rollable phone?

With Huawei revealing its tri-folding display phone – the Mate XT – earlier this month, speculation is growing that its rival, Samsung, may also push forward with all-new display technology for its smartphones.

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a rollable smartphone sometime in 2025. This comes as a response to Samsung losing the race for the first “tri-fold” smartphone to Huawei, as the Chinese company launched the Mate XT earlier this month with an impressive form factor and a huge display.

Samsung recently lost the race to launch a triple-folding smartphone to Huawei, which introduced the Mate XT in China in September. Interestingly, Samsung filed a patent for a similar device in 2021 but never brought it to market.

Back in 2021, a patent application from Samsung about its rollable phone surfaced on the web. Since then, the development of the rollable phone has appeared in the news several times. The company’s first rollable phone was speculated to launch in 2025.
