Political parties in Thailand have registered their candidates to become prime minister after the upcoming general election, marking the unofficial start of campaigning
Thailand and Cambodia agreed on Saturday to halt weeks of fierce border clashes, the worst fighting in years between the Southeast Asian countries that has included fighter-jet sorties, exchange of rocket fire and artillery barrages.
In addition to ending fighting, the agreement calls for no further military movements by either side and no violations of either side's airspace for military purposes.
Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said that Thailand deployed F-16 fighter jets to drop about 40 bombs on a village in the northwestern province of Banteay Meanchey.
Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, the defence ministers of the two countries said in a joint statement on Saturday.
In addition to Thailand, flat-headed cats can be found in Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo, according to the Felidae Conservation Fund. They have a diet dominated by fish, frogs and shrimp, and are nocturnal, elusive animals.
The two countries agreed to hold talks using their General Border Committee, an established bilateral mechanism, as border fighting entered a third week.
The happy news was confirmed by a survey from Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, and Panthera Thailand, a global wild cat conservation organization, according to a statement emailed to Popular Science .
After 30 years unseen, Thailand’s flat-headed cat reappears on camera traps, including a mother and cub, raising hope for survival, and questions about how many still roam hidden wetlands today.
