New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore said the competition between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough was “really, really close” and that he wasn’t ready to make a final decision on the QB1 spot when speaking with reporters on Tuesday, though he did give a bit of a timeline.
Rattler threw the best and worst pass of the day, while Tyler Shough also had his moments. Is the offensive line play more concerning than QB1?
Rattler is a former top collegiate prospect whose draft stock plummeted late in his NCAA career. He ended up making seven appearances and six starts for the Saints in 2024, throwing for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 57 percent of his passes. Not great.

Saints Wire on MSNKellen Moore has a deadline in mind to choose the Saints' starting quarterback
Just how long is Kellen Moore going to wait to name his starting quarterback? He joked that the process may run up to Week 1's kickoff game:
Spencer Rattler now has some late-game highlights on his preseason resume as he competes with rookie Tyler Shough to become the New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback.
"They’re ballers," Rattler said of the Saints rookie class shortly after the game. "I mean, they’re dependable. They’re reliable. They know their stuff and Jonas has had a great camp and obviously made plays throughout the preseason and made a great pick. I thought there was a second left, but he made a hell of a play."
