A freshman cornerback for Pittsburgh’s football team is dead after a car crash in Indiana, the team announced. Mason Alexander died in Fishers on Saturday night. He was 18.

A student-athlete who committed to the University of Pittsburgh's football program died on Saturday in a car crash in the state of Indiana. He was identified as Mason Alexander. Alexander was the passenger in a car that attempted to pass another vehicle just before the top of a hill when another vehicle came the opposite way and struck the car that Alexander was in.

The 18-year-old graduated early from high school and enrolled at Pittsburgh in December, with an eye on joining spring practice later this month.
