Oregon is experiencing a record-breaking wildfire season with over 2 million acres burned so far in 2026, including several massive megafires.

Wildfire smoke cast an orange haze over the Portland area and much of the Willamette Valley on Tuesday, bringing a campfire smell and unhealthy air quality, as dozens of fires continued to burn across Oregon.

Across the state, 2,049,677 acres have been burned by wildfires this season, surpassing the 2024 record, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. The agency's latest data on total acres burned so far this year was released on Wednesday.

Crews were pulled from a wildfire on the Oregon-Idaho state line because of confrontations with ranchers trying to protect their land.

Oregon has broken its annual wildfire acreage record just three days into August. The state surpassed its previous record, set in 2024, after more than 2 million acres burned across more than 40 fires statewide.

It remains a dangerous week for wildfires across Oregon, with new evacuations on Mount Hood, and red flag warnings.
