The future of the shuttered Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City is up in the air after City Council voted against a plan to develop the area into a high-rise hotel resort.
Mita opened parts of the theme park this summer despite it closing last October, amid financial hardships, after about 94 years of operation. The owner rescued Wonderland from closure when about $8 million in debt was sought through bankruptcy court.
Eustace Mita, owner of Wonderland Pier in Ocean City, New Jersey, told NBC10 that he will sell the property after the city council voted "no" to designate it as an "area in need of rehabilitation."
Standing on the music pier Thursday morning listening to the percussive sounds of white caps stirred by Hurricane Erin crashing on pilings and storm drain pipes, they watched in wonder and hoped that any flooding would kindly avoid the house on 27th Street they bought 30 years ago.
