Notre Dame has finally made a decision on its starting quarterback for the 2025 season, announcing that redshirt freshman CJ Carr has won the starting quarterback battle and will open up for the Irish in the season opener against Miami (Fla.) on August 31.

Marcus Freeman announced CJ Carr as their starting quarterback for the season opener in Miami. To most people surrounding the program, the sophomore was presumed the eventual starter following the departure of Steve Angeli in the transfer portal.

CJ Carr will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback when the No. 6 Irish open the season at No. 10 Miami on Aug. 31.
