Kansas City Chiefs waive rookie RB

Twitchy Wake Forest Demon Deacons running back Demond Claiborne would be a great addition to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2026 NFL draft.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a bit of a backfield logjam. The returners include Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele. Then you add in veteran Elijah Mitchell, brought over after time with the 49ers, and rookie Brashard Smith, who starred at SMU. There probably isn't room for every one of those guys in the RB room.
Last season, Hunt led Kansas City in rushing with 728 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn't join the Chiefs until Week 4 last season after being signed due to Isiah Pacheco's injury.
Between his tenures with the Chiefs, Hunt played for the Cleveland Browns. On Thursday, Patrick Mahomes appeared on the second episode of "The Kingdom." In the episode, he spoke about the Chiefs' controversial decision to re-sign Hunt after his previous scandal.
The Chiefs drafted Brashard Smith in the seventh round out of SMU, so it seems likely he'll make the team, too. Kansas City may keep Carson Steele, too. He's been listed as a fullback.
