Gita Gopinath, the International Monetary Fund’s No. 2 official, is stepping down at the end of August, giving President Donald Trump an opportunity to name her replacement and put his stamp on the global crisis lender.

The move gives the US Treasury a chance to recommend a replacement at a time Trump is reshaping global economy.

Gita Gopinath is a respected Indian-American economist serving as the First Deputy Managing Director at the IMF. She has announced her departure and will be leaving the IMF at the end of August.
