The California governor celebrated Proposition 50's victory Saturday, calling the redistricting battle "the whole thing" for Democratic hopes in upcoming midterm elections.

SACRAMENTO, California — Gavin Newsom will headline a rally in Texas on Saturday alongside Lone Star state House members and dignitaries — an event designed as an aggressive show of force in the wake of California Democrats’ resounding gerrymander victory on Tuesday.

Newsom, who is en route to Brazil for a climate change conference, is using a layover in Houston to tout what he is calling a "landslide win" with Proposition 50

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom drew a large crowd in Texas for a rally in support of Texas Democrats amid the redistricting in the state. Videos posted to social media showed a long line to get into the rally.

The governors of Texas and California have been at odds in recent months over their respective pushes to redistrict their states mid-decade. Both could also be contenders in the next presidential election.

Among the many victories Democrats saw on Tuesday night was the passing of Prop 50 in California and, according to "The View" host Sunny Hostin, Democrats in other states "really need to pay attention to it" if they want to be successful in future elections.
