ISU (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) snapped a mistake-filled four-game losing streak, erased an 11-point early-fourth quarter deficit, and finally because bowl eligible for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
Just as the Cyclones’ losing streak looked set to reach five games, Aiden Flora decided to just go ahead and change everything. The freshman's 79-yard punt return touchdown in the fourth quarter gave Iowa State an improbable, wild and desperately-needed 20-17 victory on Saturday, Nov. 8, over TCU.
Bell’s interception in the first quarter set up Iowa State’s first TD, a 23-yard reception by 6-foot-7 tight end Benjamin Brahmer. He caught the ball around the 10 with his back to the goal line, then lunged through four defenders while extending his body into the end zone for a 6-0 lead with a missed extra point.
The Cyclones have played with plenty of the former, but far less of the latter during their four-game slide, and must find a way to have fun on the field again as they seek to secure bowl eligibility for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
