National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., have begun carrying firearms as former President Trump threatens to deploy troops to Chicago and Baltimore.

The deployment of military for domestic law enforcement has drawn backlash from Democrats, with one governor calling it an "abuse of power".

The threat came in response to an invitation from Maryland's Democrat Wes Moore for Trump to attend a safety walk.
