On June 18, 2025, the Larimer County Coroner’s Office responded to an area near the Alpine Ridge Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park to investigate human remains that were found.

The Alpine Ridge is a hiking trail at the park. It is only 0.6 miles in distance round trip, but has an elevation gain of 162 feet, according to the National Park Service.

Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States - reaching 12,183 feet in elevation. Park plow operators normally encounter drifts from 18 to 22 feet, officials said.
